Do you enjoy reading and writing, perfecting grammar, and catching typos? Do you need a way to earn money that’s flexible and won’t rule your life? Because—ahem—our kids already do that, right? 🙂 (In the best way possible, of course.)

But seriously, do you like keeping your mind busy in ways other than reading Goodnight Moon for the millionth time?

If so, proofreading may be the ideal job for you!

In fact, proofreading is the perfect work-from-home job for stay-at-home moms.

It’s flexible, has a low start-up cost, and as a freelancer you can work from anywhere and take on as little or as much work as you choose. (Oh, and did I mention you get to read?—all sorts of interesting stuff—for money!) What’s not to love?

Ready to get started?

Then it’s time to start training, just like you would for any other job. But don’t worry, the training is as flexible as the work—you can do it while your kids sleep or even while they’re dropping Playdoh all over your floor. (Shh, I won’t tell anyone! That stuff’s easier to sweep up when it’s dry, anyway, right?)

Let’s start!

All you need is a reliable, well-rated professional course, such as the one offered through Proofreading Academy. If you’re willing to study hard, you could begin earning money as a professional proofreader within months–maybe even sooner. The course is self-paced, so you’re in control.

And guess what?

Proofreading Academy offers a work guarantee if you pass with a grade of 80% or higher!

Excited yet? I know I am! I signed up last week for the Becoming a Proofreader course and am really enjoying the detailed content, which is why I wanted to share it with my fellow stay-at-home moms.

Just think how much writing is produced every day—it all increases the need for competent proofreaders. If we learn this skill, we can join the ranks of successful, happy work-at-home moms earning money from reading and writing. Is that the dream, or what?

Still not sure if Proofreading Academy is right for you?

No worries, give it a try with their no-obligation free trial to see if you enjoy the learning material. That’s how I began, and it’s what convinced me to sign up for the full course.

And while it’s already a very affordable course for the quality, you can make it even more affordable by taking advantage of the academy’s payment plan. If you follow through and are serious about becoming a qualified proofreader, you’ll earn that money back.

Once trained, you’ll be well prepared to take on work, and you can confidently call yourself a professional while citing your qualifications (which not everyone who calls herself a proofreader can do). You’ll be a step above–and your work will prove this!

This all sounds wonderful, but you don’t have to take my word for it. Read this testimonial from Amanda, a stay-at-home mom who is also a successful Proofreading Academy graduate.

Admit it: do you still handwrite your manuscripts?

You’re in good company! Plenty of writers still create their first drafts the old-fashioned way: by hand. I do. And I know many others do, too.

In this day and age of technology, why would anyone opt to write by hand with paper and pen (or pencil)? Because there’s something about it that allows a free-er flow of thought and creativity from the brain to the paper than from the brain to keyboard and screen. Others appreciate the ease and portability of lightweight paper and pen. Others might not trust technology, particularly if they–or someone they know–experienced a devastating loss through a computer crash.

Whatever your reason, if it works for your writing, it makes sense to do it.

However, when it’s time to submit to a publisher or self-publish, what do you do? At that point, a handwritten document won’t be accepted.

The solution is simple: type up that manuscript.

But what if you don’t know how to type? Or what if your typing skills are rusty and tedious at best? Hire a typist. This option is probably more affordable than you think. Also, rates are typically quoted per page, so you’ll know the cost upfront–not get hit with an unexpectedly huge bill. While getting a short story typed up is extremely affordable, novellas and novels can be too, as long as you use the right service.

I recommend HireaTypist.com, which offers fast, affordable, professional typing services. So don’t let your handwritten manuscripts languish in a drawer–get them typed into clean, formatted manuscripts that you can submit or publish like a professional.

Moms should not make the choice to stay at home with their kids, because… they won’t make enough money?stay at home mom and baby

Many may debate the “true meaning” of President Obama’s recent words regarding stay-at-home moms, but he said it quite clearly:

“Sometimes, someone, usually mom, leaves the workplace to stay home with the kids, which then leaves her earning a lower wage for the rest of her life as a result. And that’s not a choice we want Americans to make,” Obama said. “So let’s make this happen: By the end of this decade, let’s enroll 6 million children in high-quality preschool, and let’s make sure that we are making America stronger.”

According to President Obama, America will be made stronger by mothers spending less time with their children. Sad.

Go ahead, view the video here and watch him say the words!

Stay-at-home moms everywhere are reacting!

“This warped perception has been circling the drain of the public toilet far too long and when it came from the mouth of one of the most influential men in the world, I had to add a few points of my own.” Read the rest of this mom’s well-worded reaction here.

“Yes, my wife is JUST a mother…. Yes, she is just a mother. Which is sort of like looking at the sky and saying, ‘hey, it’s just the sun.'”

You’ve gotta love how this guy writes. Matt Walsh’s infamous “You’re a stay-at-home mom? What do you DO all day?” article earned his blog a slew of stay-at-home mom fans, not to mention about three million views in two days.a mom&child

Read it, and it’s easy to see why.

The article was written as a tribute to Matt’s wife, a stay-at-home mother of twins, but it resounds with all stay-at-home moms because it heartens us that someone actually gets it and is willing to say it with no holds barred.

Most awesome of all, this is not just someone, but a guy. A husband! He sees our situation as it is, and it’s intoxicatingly refreshing! He sums up our conundrum precisely and with a clever brand of humor and elegance.

In a later blog, Stay-at-home moms: you don’t owe the world an explanation, Matt wrote, “I’m just a guy who loves his wife and appreciates the sacrifices she makes for the family. That’s really the entirety of my insight into this subject.”

Simply put, yet his words are music to all stay-at-home moms’ ears.

Thanks, Matt!

“We all have to get our own jobs and make our own money, but staying at home, nurturing, being the mother, cooking – it’s a valuable thing my mum created.”

So said Kirsten Dunst in a recent Harper’s Bazaar interview.

Good for her for not being afraid to voice this truth. I thought it was very refreshing to hear this from a Hollywood starlet–not to mention brave, considering the backlash sure to come her way. (And yes, it has.)
